Background:Abderrahmane (Abder) Yagouti has been working in the field of climate change adaptation since 2003 with a focus on climate change and health impacts. Abder has developed a multidisciplinary expertise and has published several papers related to climate change trends, heat health impacts and adaptation measures. Over the last two years, he has been leading projects that aim to provide easy access of climate and impact-related data through web-based online tools.

Since 2016, I am employed as research associate at the competence center for climate impacts and adaptation within the German Environment Agency.

Background:Dr. Barry O'Dwyer has worked in the area of climate change and adaptation for the past 7 years. Barry leads the development of Climate Ireland, Ireland’s national adaptation service, and works closely with Ireland’s Department of Communication and Climate Action (DCCAE) to support the development and implementation of adaptation plans and programmes at national, regional and local scales. Barry also leads and manages the Climate Impacts and Adaptation Research Group at MaREI which has the key aim of developing science in support of national and international adaptation policy.

Background:Kim van Nieuwaal is a specialist in science-policy interactions, particularly in the field of adaptation to climate change. As a seasoned knowledge broker he has been advisor to ministries, provinces, municipalities, universities, knowledge institutes, ngo's and businesses. He has an extensive network in academia, policy and practice. Currently, Kim is strategic advisor at Climate Adaptation Services foundation. He is director of Delta Alliance International. Kim is involved in the Global Center on Adaptation. Kim is also chairman of the board at the Dutch Wadden Sea Society. Kim was program manager of the Netherlands national research program Knowledge for Climate (90 mln. Euros). Kim was one of the lead authors of the National Adaptation Strategy of the Netherlands which was published in 2016. Also, Kim has been involved in climate adaptation strategies for Rotterdam, The Hague, Mainport Schiphol Airport, the South-west Delta, the Wadden Sea and the major rivers in the Netherlands. Kim has been teaching on public administration, strategic management and adaptation to climate change. He has also published in those fields. Kim van Nieuwaal holds an MA in Public Administration from the Erasmus University Rotterdam and a PhD in Public Administration and Organization Studies from VU University Amsterdam.

Background:Dr. Tzu-Ming Liu is the Team Leader of Team3 in the project, Taiwan Climate Change Projection Information and Adaptation Knowledge Platform (TCCIP) funded by Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in Taiwan. Team3 is responsible for the climate change service platform and promotion of the project. TCCIP new platform is planned and constructed by his hands. His research topics cover water resources risk and adaptation assessment to climate change. He has developed a “Taiwan Water Resources Program to Climate Change”-TaiWAP program which integrates climate change scenarios, weather generator, hydrology model, water resources model and adaptation option decision tool in this program.

His research topics covers loss model of natural disasters, impact assessment under climate change, social vulnerability analysis (natural disaster), debris flow prevention, and disaster management.

Background:Dr. Yung-Ming Chen is the Division Head of Climate Change Division in NCDR, and also is the PM of Taiwan Climate Change Projection Information and Adaptation Knowledge Platform (TCCIP) funded by Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in Taiwan. His Ph.D. degree was from Atmospheric Science Department of National Taiwan University. His research topics covers climate analysis, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA). And he is also the expert for the disaster management to support the Central Emergency Operator Center (CEOC) of disaster response system in Taiwan.

Mr. Roger B Street

Background:Roger B. Street joined the University of Oxford in 2006 after working for over 30 years within the Canadian federal government, where much of his work focused on climate, impacts, and adaptation. He is a Research Fellow within the Environmental Change Institute, University of Oxford where he provides strategic and technical advice on climate risk, adaptation and resilience assessments and planning. This builds on his experience in leading and supporting national assessments in Canada, the U.S. and the United Kingdom, and developing assessment processes internationally. Roger also plays a leading role in the UK and internationally on develop and presenting knowledge and evidence to inform assessments, planning and implementation in the context of adaptation and resilience. Internationally this has included working in Ireland (as a member of the Adaptation Committee), China and Brazil, and with colleagues within the European Environment Agency. The foci of this work are on informing and improving understanding of adaptation assessment processes, supporting adaptation decision-making and enhancing engagement and knowledge exchange to inform decisions and research.

Background:Dr. Yasuaki Hijioka is the Deputy Director of Center for Climate Change Adaptation in National Institute for Environmental Studies, Japan (NIES). His research topics cover modeling analysis for environmental issues related to climate change impacts and adaptation. He is involved in the development of the Asian Pacific Integrated Model (AIM) to estimate climate change impacts and to assess policy options for stabilizing global climate. He was a Coordinating Lead Author in the IPCC Working Group II's Fifth Assessment report in its Chapter 24 "Asia" and is a Lead Author in the IPCC special report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5℃ above pre-industrial levels and related global greenhouse gas emission pathways in its Chapter 3. He is also a visiting professor of the University of Tokyo. He holds the doctor degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Tokyo.

Background:Dr. Kazutaka Oka is the Senior Researcher of National Institute for Environmental Studies, Japan (NIES). He has been conducting researches on climate change impact and adaptation. He is managing the Climate Change Adaptation Information Platform (A-PLAT) and developing the Asia-Pacific Adaptation Information Platform(AP-PLAT). Before he joined NIES in 2018, he worked as a division manager in a consulting company where he gained 14 years' experience, and he mainly engaged in researches on climate change mitigation, impact, and adaptation. He received the doctor degree in theoretical astrophysics from Kobe University. He also has various activities such as giving visiting lectures at the University of Tokyo and for events related to climate change adaptation.

Background:Dr. Fujita joined Center for Climate Change Adaptation, National Institute for Environmental Studies in April 2019. Prior to joining NIES, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Center for Environmental Biology and Ecosystem Studies, National Institute for Environmental Studies where he examined the effects of climate change and population change on future land use in Japan. He has more than 10 years of research experience in forest ecology in both Japan and African countries.

Background:Dr. Masago joined Center for Climate Change Adaptation, National Institute for Environmental Studies in April 2019. Prior to joining NIES, he was a Research Fellow in United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability where he managed research projects on effects of rapid urbanization and climate change on water-related issues in Asian megacities. He has more than 10 years of research experience in water quality issues, health-related water microbiology, health risk assessment of infectious diseases in both developed and developing countries.

Background:Valentina Giannini is a researcher at the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC, since 2009) where she is deputy manager of the European Topic Center on Climate Change Impacts, Vulnerabilities, and Adaptation supporting the European Environment Agency, specifically contributing to the updating and maintenance of the European Climate Change Adaptation Platform (Climate-ADAPT).
Her main research focus is to foster decision-making based on science, integrating local knowledge, for climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, urban and land-use planning, and urban design. Valentina developed this interest after graduating in Architecture and Planning (1996) working in a multidisciplinary planning office. She refined this through specific studies (MEM 2007, PhD 2012).
