Company Overview

MS&AD InterRisk Research & Consulting, Inc., plays a central role in the risk-related services business within the MS&AD Insurance Group.
We have provided services that meet the diverse expectations of our clients, including consulting, research, surveys, seminars, lectures and writing reports on risk management.

Climate Change Impacts

Climate change is expected to intensify the frequency and severity of floods, increasing the demand for flood risk management. While flood hazard maps have been developed and utilized primarily in developed countries, preparing for unprecedented disasters requires considering the potential impacts of future climate change.

Adaptation Initiatives

We have developed a web-based service capable of analyzing flood risk and assessing the impact of future climate change on a global scale. This service features hazard maps developed through joint research with MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, the University of Tokyo, and Shibaura Institute of Technology.

  • Hazard Map Features
The service provides global coverage, enabling users to assess flood risks under both current and future conditions, even in regions where hazard maps have not been published by public agencies (Fig. 1). Hazard maps with a spatial resolution of 500 meters are available free of charge.
  • Function of This Service
If you need to assess the detailed flood risk for a specific site, you can check the estimated inundation depth and damage amount due to flooding based on hazard maps with 90m resolution (30m resolution in Japan) by registering the site’s information (Fig. 2). Additionally, the data on inundation depths, damage amounts, duration of impact, and other key metrics can be downloaded. Compared to conventional consulting services, this service offers a more convenient and cost-effective way to conduct flood risk analysis, ultimately contributing to the overall reduction of climate change risk for society.

Effects/Expected Benefits

In addition to enabling the management of flood risks of own sites and supply chain, this service covers various climate change scenarios and can be utilized to assess and disclose financial risks (physical risks) in accordance with the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
