As a leading company in geospatial information technology, Kokusai Kogyo Co., Ltd. is leading the industry to create safe and secure “Green Communities” with its expertise in social infrastructure, disaster prevention/environmental protection, and renewable energy.

Adaptation Initiatives

As climate change progresses, the risk of the occurrence of unprecedented natural disaster is increasing. In recent years, the annual occurrence of floods and sediment-related disasters has made us more aware of this fact. In response to such natural disaster risks such as floods and sediment-related disasters, companies and governments are required to formulate Business Continuity Plans (BCP).

Based on our experience as a leader in disaster prevention and disaster mitigation in Japan and in supporting the disaster prevention administration of the national and local governments, we support private companies for their disaster prevention and countermeasures by identifying the risks associated with their locations. As part of this support, we conduct both simple and detailed surveys on disaster risks with our "location assessment and disaster prevention advisory and consulting service”. Specific details of the survey are as follows.

  1. Simple survey
The "location assessment report" is a simple summary of disaster risks. The natutal disaster risk at a specific location is outlined based on hazard information published by public organizations.
  2. Detailed survey
The “disaster prevention advisory and consulting service” is a detailed version of our survey. The expert engineers evaluate potential disaster risks, such as topography, collect hazard maps and interpret simulation results. We also provide risk consulting services such as advice on countermeasures, and contribute to the BCP of the companies and the government (Fig. 1).

Effects/Expected Benefits

Natural disaster risk is strongly influenced by location. Although information on disaster prevention has improved in recent years, the information has become more complex and difficult to interpret. With this service, it is expected that highly effective BCPs will be created without misjudging the magnitude of risk for disaster prevention measures in facilities and in the design process.
