Following the words of founder Tokuji Hayakawa, "Make products that others want to imitate," the company has been dedicated to manufacturing products that meet the needs of the next generation faster than anywhere else, and has been contributing to society and earning the trust of customers since its establishment in 1912.
Climate Change Impacts
With the progression of climate change, the number of midsummer days and extremely hot days has been increasing in recent years, resulting in an increase in heat stroke sufferers. Heat stroke is greatly affected not only by temperature but also by humidity (Fig. 1), and many cases occur indoors. Since heat stroke can be prevented with appropriate preventive measures, it is necessary to respond to the unnoticed change of indoor environment and encourage actions to prevent heat stroke.
Adaptation Initiatives
We support and contribute to activities to reduce heat stroke by spreading correct knowledge about dehydration, and by incorporating monitoring function in our products, we aim to regulate the indoor environment, which is a contributing factor to heat stroke.
The “high temperature/humidity monitoring function” (Fig. 2 and Fig. 3) installed in the electric fan lights up and blinks (Fig. 4), according to the guidelines in Fig. 1, and also notifies the user with an alarm when the temperature reaches levels C and D. This alerts the users to take precautions, and along with the explanation of the monitoring function, the manual also include instructions to lower the room temperature and to drink water in accordance with the indoor environment. The monitoring function automatically controls the airflow according to each level based on the set airflow rate, thereby mitigating the heat.
Effects / Expected Benefits
The high temperature/humidity monitoring function is expected to help people become aware of the high temperature and high humidity in the room, leading to increased awareness of heat stroke countermeasures and preventive actions against heat stroke.
