Adaptation Initiatives

Climate change could result in the further damages from natural disasters such as sea-level rise, surges, floods, and flooding due to concentrated heavy precipitation. As the group owning one of the largest silos and milling facilities in Japan, they are committed to provide a steady supply of food to society. The group is assessing the impacts of climate change on their business and implementing various adaptation measures, such as enhancement of the management system and renovating the facilities, to ensure the steady supply and to minimize the effects on consumers' lives even in the events of natural disasters.

Measures against Natural Disasters

The Nisshin Seifun Group has been implementing measures against water-related disasters at their business sites throughout Japan. At the business sites where the impacts from floods and surge are expected according to the result of analysis based on the hazard maps, they formulated response and procedure manuals, and they are checking the effectiveness by conducting emergency drills.

Against the Water Risk

The group has been conducting risk assessments of water-resource for the areas related with our operation and procurement of raw materials. In case of drought threatens caused changing in rainfall patterns by unusual weather, they are assessing the physical impacts on the water resource and water-supply system at operation site and taking appropriate measures to minimize the impacts on their production in advance.
