Company Overview
MISAWA HOMES CO., LTD. uses the “microclimate design” approach to build a town where an energy-saving lifestyle is sustained by understanding the climate and the natural feature of the planned site, and designing it to match the potential of the land so that we can provide the best microclimate for the health and comfort of the residents.
Misawa Homes Institute of Research and Development Co., Ltd. supervises and conducts pre/post evaluations of the “microclimate design”, and is engaged in research and development to realize an eco-friendly and highly sustainable living environment.
Adaptation Initiatives
Based on the environment of the project site and the climate of the surrounding area, we are working to realize a “city with coolness” by carefully considering the wind flows, and by making proposals such as placing cool spots using our original passive cooling items.
Adoption of a Town Section Layout That Allows the Breeze to Pass Through
- We adopt the “microclimate design” utilizing the wind from the east in the summer. By placing a park at the gateway of the wind, the wind will be cooled by the shade of greenery in the park and by the sprinkler using well water, and the cooled wind will flow into the town. The curved roads that do not block the flow allow the wind to pass through the town, bringing cool breeze to each house and efficiently releasing heat.
Creating Cool Spots by Evaporative Cooling System
- We are engaged in initiatives to make the comfort last longer for the entire city by lowering the temperature of the ground, fences, and other structures through greening and evaporative cooling system, and placing "cool spots" where people can feel a cooler temperature in various locations.
- Example of a terrace being used as a cool spot
By spraying water on the terrace fenced with “passive cooling technology”, the daytime temperature can be lowered by up to 4°C compared to an ordinary terrace.
Establishment of Websites to Share Weather Information
- Two weather observation units are installed within the town to obtain pinpoint real-time weather information.
- By setting up a website for residents to share and gain detailed information on the weather of the city, they can utilize the information for their daily lives, such as heat stroke or sunburn prevention, laundry, gardening, and energy conservation.
