Results of Participant Questionnaire in the Third Climate Change Adaptation Promotion Symposium-Climate Risk Management and Adaptation Business by Private Business Operators

Date of the meeting October 23, 2020
Venue On-line (Zoom Webinar)

The Third Workshop on Climate Change Adaptation Promotion by Private Business Operators-Climate Risk Information and Examples of Climate Risk Information Utilization-was co-hosted by Ministry of the Environment and National Institute for Environmental Studies on October 23, 2020, and a questionnaire was conducted for participants. There were two types of questionnaires: ① a questionnaire (prior questionnaire) taken at the time of application for participation, and ② a questionnaire (posterior questionnaire) asked for cooperation after the meeting. Here is an overview of the results of each questionnaire, as shown in the figure.

① Advance survey (conducted from September 25 to October 22, 2020)

[Respondents]

Ten respondents answered "Universities" as a breakdown of "Other" in [Fig. 1 Organizations to which participants belong].
The breakdown of "Others" in [Figure 2: Participants' Industries] was mostly consulting-related.

[Reason for participation in this symposium]

As reasons for participation in this symposium, more than half of respondents selected "to collect information on climate risk management," "to collect information on adaptation business," and "to confirm national trends on climate change."

[Awareness of A-PLAT]

74% of respondents say they "browse well" or "have browsed" A-PLAT.

[Initiatives for Climate Change Adaptation by Participants' Organizations]

Approximately half of the participants responded that they are "currently taking measures for adaptation" with regard to the status of efforts by the organizations to which they belong.

Fig. 6-2 shows the selected percentage of respondents in each questionnaire to compare the previous survey (at the second symposium held in 2019) with the current survey (at the main symposium held in 2020). The number of respondents who answered "There are measures for adaptation today" rose 21%, from 25% in the previous survey to 46% in the present survey. Although it was not possible to make direct comparisons because of different participants, it was suggested that there may be an increase in adaptation efforts by businesses or an increase in businesses that recognize adaptation efforts.

45% of participants answered that there are issues related to climate change adaptation at their organizations.

② Advance survey (conducted from October 23 to November 6, 2020)

[Comments on Program Departments]

For Part 1 of the program, 92% of participants said they were "helpful."

In addition, 91% of participants in Part 2 of the program answered that they were "helpful". In addition, 83% of participants in Part 3 responded that they were "helpful."

"Corporate adaptation business" is the most common topic that you want to know in more detail in the future, followed by "Corporate climate risk management."

Based on your opinions, A-PLAT will continue its efforts to promote climate-change adaptation. Thank you very much for your cooperation with the questionnaire!
