Adaptation activity
Miyazaki Prefecture is supporting the cultivation of subtropical fruit trees in response to global warming, with a focus on lychee after having previously promoted mango production.
In FY 2013, lychee were shipped to market the first time, and received favorable feedback for their color, taste, and texture, which were considered superior to imported fruit. While applying some of the systems used for mango production, lychee cultivation is currently being researched to ensure more stable yield. Preserving freshness is being researched, as the quality of lychee rapidly degrades after harvesting. Further improvement of quality and securing stable production will be developed with the aim of increasing domestic production.
