In order to advance adaptation to climate change in the agricultural sector, it is essential to share information with farmers.
The California Ministry of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) organizes the Climate Smart Agriculture Webinar Series, in collaboration with international partners, to address climate-change issues in agriculture (Fig.). The webinars bring together the CDFA, U.S. Department of Agriculture California Climate Hub, academics, agricultural support services, and farmers to discuss shared challenges and potential adaptation strategies. Ten seminars were held up to April 2018. Working with the Netherlands, Israel, Australia, and Chile, adaptation measures in various fields such as salt damage countermeasures, irrigation water management, dairy farming, and soil management were discussed. After seminars are livestreamed, they continue to be viewable online, together with archived materials through the CDFA website.
It is expected that international collaboration between industry, academia and governmental bodies will be advanced through this platform. It is also expected that information will be disseminated and adaptation will be promoted by creating an environment in which everyone can access resources regardless of time or location.
