"National Institute for Environmental Studies ""Great Summer Opening"" was held on July 20th (Saturday)." This time, more than 6,000 people, the largest number ever visited. The Center for Climate Change Adaptation also participated in the Center for Climate Change Adaptation. The Center opened six posters, equipment for measuring the heat index (WBGT※) and rice samples, etc. on the theme of "Why is Climate Change Adaptation?", and a picture roll workshop for conveying "Adaptation"?

Poster exhibition
In the poster exhibition, we explained two approaches to climate change, namely "mitigation" and "adaptation," and introduced examples of the impacts of climate change occurring in Japan and the efforts of local governments to cope with it.
We also displayed rice (high-temperature resistant rice), which is produced in many parts of Japan and is resistant to heat, as part of our efforts to cultivate rice that is not exposed to heat.
We also learned about the prevention of heat stroke while observing the monitoring status of the heat index (WBGT) measuring instrument installed in two places: inside the site (indoors with air conditioning) and inside the laboratory site (outdoors).

Picture scroll workshop
The pictorial scroll workshop was further powered up from the June Eco Life Fair. In addition to 12 table seats, Terakoya-style tatami mat-mat room space has appeared. Distribution of the 320 copies that had been prepared was completed earlier than planned.

The commemorative photo space prepared for taking photos with the emakimono I made was also popular. Everyone looked very happy while holding the picture scroll that was actually made with the pattern Japanese paper and string that they chose by themselves.

Original design goods
This time, not only booths at the Climate Change Adaptation Centre, but also eco-bags and mini-hand towels, gifts for National Institute for Environmental Studies visitors, were created with original designs on the topic of adapting to climate change.

The eco-bag's Japanese-pattern logo depicts plants representing Japan's rich four seasons, and rice (= agriculture) and waves (= flood control). The logo expresses the expectation that animals will adapt to climate change in the new era.

The design of the hand wipe introduces four points of interest in preventing heat stroke in Japanese and English.

Wipe painting
Climate change adaptation was designed with the intention of giving people a sense of the deep relationship between our lives, our lifestyles, and our cultures. I hope it will be one of the opportunities for us to work together to adapt to the climate change of a new era.
