Exhibited at Eco-Life Fair 2019

Date of the meeting June 1th-2th, 2019
Venue Tokyo / Shibuya Ward

We participated in Eco-Life Fair 2019, held on June 1 and 2 by Ministry of the Environment.
The exhibits and picture roll manufacturing corners were displayed on the day.

On Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2, 2019, the Eco-Life Fair 2019, from "Awareness" to "Behavior" to the Future of the Earth, was held in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. The Eco-Life Fair was exhibited at National Institute for Environmental Studies Booth jointly with the Global Environmental Research Center.
Mitigation measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adaptation measures to prepare for new damages and disasters caused by climate change impacts, while addressing students from around the world who are seeking to tackle climate change. I asked everyone to learn these two themes.

[Why is climate change adaptation now?]

Based on the Climate Change Adaptation Law (enforced on December 1, 2018), we introduced the Climate Change Adaptation Centre (CCCA) established in National Institute for Environmental Studies on the same day.

In recent years, there has been concern that high-temperature damage may occur in rice cultivation in Japan. As an adaptation measure, we explained the heat-resistant rice (high-temperature resistant rice) produced in various parts of Japan using the Japanese map and actual rice. We also installed a measuring instrument for the heat index (WBGT: Wet Bulb Globe Temperature) inside and outside the booths to give lectures on prevention of heat stroke. The instrument for measuring the heat index (WBGT) calculates the heat exchange between the human body and the outside air based on the temperatures of wet bulbs, black bulbs, and dry bulbs, and can indicate the susceptibility to heat stroke (unit: ℃).

The Japanese map was used to explain the impacts of climate change occurring in Japan and examples of adaptation measures taken by local governments.

[Pre-release! Original mini-picture scroll "Knowledge of adaptation measures!"]

A mini picture scroll to let many people know about adapting to climate change while having fun has appeared for the first time! Children and adults alike are interested in a picture scroll of about 60cm in total length. We asked visitors to choose the colors of Japanese paper and strings with their favorite patterns, and we invited visitors to create an original picture scroll of only one piece in the world. The shaft part of the emakimono is designed to be a small container. Some of the secret tools may be crept!?
