The Second Workshop on Climate Change Adaptation Promotion by Private Business Operators ? Climate Risk Information and Examples of Climate Risk Information Utilization ? which was co-hosted by Ministry of the Environment and National Institute for Environmental Studies on August 2, 2019, presented a questionnaire to participants. There were two types of questionnaires: ①questionnaires that were submitted on the Web at the time of application for participation (pre-questionnaires), and ②questionnaires that were completed by those who visited on the day (pre-questionnaires). Thank you everyone for your cooperation. This section provides an overview of the results of each questionnaire.
① Prior questionnaire
[Attributes of Respondents]

Of the participants, 78% (116) belonged to "companies".

Of the enterprises to which the participants belonged, the largest number of industries were manufacturing (23%, 26 persons), followed by construction (10%, 11 persons).
The breakdown of "Other" includes consulting-related and media-related departments.
[Reason for Participation in the Workshop]

Most respondents chose "to collect information on climate change adaptation" as the reason for participation. More than half of the participants also chose "to collect information on TCFD and information disclosure."
[Awareness of each initiative]

74% of respondents said they "browsed" or "had browsed" A-PLAT.

Fifty-five percent of the climate change adaptation guides said they were "aware," but only one percent said they were "using," indicating that they have not yet been used.
[Status of Climate Change Adaptation Initiatives at Participants' Organizations]

Of the participants' organizations, 38% (56) were "at the stage of collecting knowledge at present, but not yet determined"; 25% (37) were "currently engaged in risk assessment and adaptation efforts related to climate change"; and 19% (28) were "scheduled to be engaged in risk assessment and adaptation efforts related to climate change".
Regarding the content of the initiatives, there were responses such as: "We are currently developing the future necessity for management at formal meetings" (manufacturing), "Specialized departments are playing a central role in educating employees and analyzing risks and opportunities in each department" (other).

Nearly half of the participants' organizations responded that there were issues related to climate change adaptation. Examples include "Increase in rainfall disasters" (transport industry), "Strengthening of each manufacturing base including BCP, and "Social Implementation of Technologies for Creating Food Cultivars That Can Respond to Climate Change" (Manufacturing industry). On the other hand, 44% answered "I don't know," indicating that many companies are still working on adaptation.
② Questionnaire on the day
[Workshop comments]

92% of the participants commented that the report was "helpful."
In addition, as reasons for "becoming a reference," we received responses such as "I was almost aware of the content, but I was able to systematically organize it and understand it again," "I was able to understand the roles and support menus of the Ministry and National Research Institute," and "I was a good opportunity to learn recent trends."

96% of the participants commented that the report was "helpful." The reasons for this were: "I was able to hear the precedents from the enterprise side, and I was able to hear the views of the ministries and research institutes on them," "I was able to concretely indicate and understand the risk responses of each enterprise," and "I was able to understand the different types of enterprises."
In addition, some commented, "I am pleased that there are cases other than food and public transportation." A-PLAT also contains examples of other industries. Please use them.

95% of the participants commented that the report was "helpful."
The reasons for this were: "I found it useful to know the actual flow of TCFD preparation," and "I felt the need to quantify it from qualitative analyses."
On the other hand, some commented, "I wanted you to teach you about scenario analysis in detail," and "In addition to explaining the results of scenario analysis in the table, we would like the Company to introduce examples of the process by which such conclusions were agreed upon." We will use this as a reference for future efforts.
[Topics that you would like to learn more about climate change adaptation in the coming years]

Here are some of the specific answers to the question, "What topics do you want to learn more about in the future?" "We want to understand how climate change affects our business activities in the future," "Introduce examples of corporate climate risk management processes and how these are linked to TCFD efforts," and "It would be good to have workshops on how to use and (how to move) more specific risk assessment tools."
Based on the opinions we received through the questionnaire,
A-PLAT will continue its efforts to promote climate-change adaptation.
Thank you for your cooperation in the survey!!
