First International Conference on Climate Change Adaptation Platform held in Tokyo

Date of the meeting December 3, 2018
Venue Tokyo

National Institute for Environmental Studies operates A-PLAT climate-adaptation platform. Since climate impacts are broad and information necessary for each region differs, the purpose of the report is to provide information necessary for the study of adaptation measures in a unified manner. These efforts began in the UK 10 years ago, and a variety of platforms are now in operation worldwide. In line with the enactment of the Climate Change Adaptation Law in December, the National Research Institute invited experts to operate advanced platforms worldwide and held platform expert meetings with the aim of further strengthening A-PLAT and advising AP-PLAT that will be established to promote adaptation in the Asia-Pacific region.

At the meeting, active discussions were held on the outline of the platforms in each country, the information to be distributed from them, the collection methods, and more effective transmission methods. Indonesia and Thailand also participated in this meeting to build platforms, and reported on progress.

This meeting was originally scheduled to be held by two or three organizations, but as an advanced initiative, it also received a great response from overseas, and 14 organizations eventually gathered. The first plenary meeting was completed after further collaboration among experts and confirmation of the next year's meeting.
