Participation in a workshop on coordination between adaptation platforms and users

Date of the meeting October 11, 2019
Venue Ireland / Dublin

In Ireland, the National Climate Change Adaptation Framework was adopted in 2018, requiring local governments to develop regional adaptation strategies by the end of September 2019. Like National Institute for Environmental Studies Climate Change Adaptation Centre, Coke University in Ireland is responsible for assisting in the development of regional adaptation plans and adaptation measures. Coke University in Ireland has supported the development of plans in cooperation with four regional adaptation centers in Japan, centered on Climate Ireland of Climate Change Adaptation Platforms.

This workshop was held with the aim of examining the information and functions required for the adaptation platform in the future, and staff from regional adaptation centers participated in the workshop, in addition to those from the Climate Action Environment Department, Public Health Department, Agricultural Food and Ocean Department, and Traffic Tourism Sports Department from the Irish Environmental Protection Agency.

At this meeting, experts from countries who attended the International Conference on Platforms held the previous day announced how their national platforms deal with the challenges and issues that delegates faced during planning. A-PLAT was highly evaluated in terms of the results of impact assessments provided in webGIS and the dissemination of information to Private sector and individuals.

Through this workshop, it was revealed that the support necessary for adaptation efforts is common in many points in the world. Taking advantage of the new knowledge gained in Ireland, we aim for further development A-PLAT.
