The 3rd International Climate Change Adaptation Platforms Meeting

Date of the meeting November 28th (Thursday) -29th (Friday), 2019
Venue Ibaraki Prefecture/Tsukuba City

The third International Climate Change Adaptation Platform Meeting was held at National Institute for Environmental Studies in Tsukuba for two days, from November 28 to 29, 2019. Fourteen researchers and practitioners from 10 countries, including Japan, participated. This conference was held for the first time in Tokyo last year, and the second in Dublin, Ireland in October this year.

On the first day (November 28), opinions were exchanged on the activities of the adaptive information platforms in each country. In the morning, researchers from National Institute for Environmental Studies gave lectures on studies and activities related to adaptation, and held questions and answers and exchanges of opinions with participants. In the afternoon open session, researchers and practitioners who operate overseas adaptive information platforms introduced their efforts in each country. In addition to discussing the operation of each platform, discussions took place on a wide range of topics, including providing knowledge to governments and local governments, developing tools for adaptive planning, providing content that meets users' needs, coordinating with other information platforms, and analyzing the use and TCFD of SNSs.

On the second day, a meeting was held on the EU-Japan, Australian, and Canadian projects for exchanging knowledge between adaptation intelligence platforms, Stepping-Up Knowledge Exchange between Climate Adaptation Knowledge Platforms(KE4CAP. KE4CAP is European Commission Strategic Partnerships for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement (SPIPA funded by the European Commission's Strategic Partnerships for Implementation of the Paris Agreement, and National Institute for Environmental Studies is a A-PLAT operator from Japan. The project aims to evaluate the value that can be generated through the use of adaptive information platforms, to compile and share issues and lessons learned as reports, and to conduct comparative analysis of adaptive information platforms. In the future, events for knowledge exchange will be held in 2020 in Japan, Australia and Canada, and workshops will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark in November to summarize these events. We are also planning to hold related events in Adaptation Futures 2020 in April of the same year. In addition, discussions were held to summarize the results of the previous meetings as a paper.

National Institute for Environmental Studies will continue to participate in these activities and work to collect knowledge on adaptation and to share the knowledge it has accumulated to date worldwide in order to further strengthen its A-PLAT.
